ABOUT THE ROLE

POSITION SUMMARY

The National School District has partnered with A1 Code Labs to build a team of instructors delivering hands-on engineering instruction to 4th through 6th grade students. A1 Code Labs has already designed the curriculum, projects, and classroom materials needed to meet the district's goals. Your job is to bring your knowledge into the room and inspire students to discover what engineers actually do.

The first two weeks serve as an on-site training and evaluation period. Continuation for the remainder of the school year is based on performance during this period.

On-site at one of the ten National School District campuses located in National City, CA. Assignment is made based on program need and instructor availability.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Deliver the A1 Code Labs engineering curriculum as designed, ensuring all weekly tasks and learning objectives are completed on schedule.

Guide students through each weekly project, connecting the work to a specific field of engineering.

Maintain a brisk, engaging pace so students stay motivated, and reinforce throughout each session what they are building toward.

Manage the classroom environment and support student safety during hands-on activities.

Secondary Duties

  • Report class progress and record the data needed to track program goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • check_circleBasic engineering background or equivalent hands-on technical experience.
  • check_circleComputer literacy, including comfort with laptops and common classroom software.
  • check_circleInterest in and willingness to work with students ages 9–11.
  • check_circleReliable transportation and the ability to arrive on time at the assigned school site.

Preferred

  • starSoldering and electronics experience (qualifies for additional Friday hours).
  • starPrior experience teaching, tutoring, coaching, or mentoring youth.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move about the classroom throughout the session.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to move tables, chairs, and equipment to configure the classroom.

Paid sick leave, accrued at one hour for every 30 hours worked and available for use after 30 days of employment.
